Thai Hut Restaurant

Welcome back!

This week my beautiful sister treated me to lunch at Thai Hut, one of her favorite spots to order take out from. I had never been to this one before and I have to say our date was very enjoyable.

The food was really great but the one thing that really stood out about this trip was the speed of service. It was crazy fast! We placed our drink order and it was almost like we blinked and soup had magically appeared in front of us.  I wasn't even halfway done with it when our meals showed up. It was so fast I almost felt rushed but I don't think that was their intention. The staff was very polite.

We also ordered their spring rolls as an appetizer and OH MY GOD. These were so flavorful and crispy. They were easily the best Thai style spring rolls I've had.

If you have never been to a Thai restaurant before, they often ask how spicy you want your meal. I usually pick somewhere in the middle but I have also ordered with no spice before if I'm not in the mood for spicy food. This trip I ordered it at a medium and it had a little more kick than I expected but the heat was manageable.

I can't wait to go back here and try some of the other items on the menu. If it was anything like this trip, I may have found my new favorite Thai restaurant.

San Antonio Burger

Hello all and welcome back!

This week I went to San Antonio Burger. This was a place that I haven't been in a long while and I quickly remembered why. This was one of those places that is either a hit or a miss depending on who is in the kitchen that night.

The staff is always very friendly and they keep up the restaurant very well. Sadly this trip our main entrees were a little disappointing. I ordered the bison burger and was excited about it. San Antonio Burger is one of the few places that I've been where they offer bison and my memory of it was a good one. This time unfortunately it was over cooked and it lost all of its flavor.

My husband ordered the chicken gyro. This was the first time either of us had ordered a gyro from here. It wasn't the best gyro we've had but it wasn't terrible.

The best part of our meal where the french fries. We ordered cheese and chili cheese fries. They were crispy and the chili didn't make them soggy at all.  I even added a few of my chili cheese fries onto my burger to try an help it out. (It helped a little.)

Our overall trip was "meh." It was a shame because we remember going here years ago and the food had occasionally been pretty good. I would definitely say this place is a gamble. If you want to roll the dice, take a chance, and hope they are cooking well that day, give it a shot. It could be awesome or it could be just okay. At the very least, you can get some good fries out of it.

Taco Garage

Welcome back foodies!

Living in Texas there are Tex-Mex restaurants all over. So many have similar menus and some with amazing histories. Its hard to pick one that showcases something unique in this region. So I decided to pick one that has great food and a fun atmosphere.

This week's pick is Taco Garage!

This Tex-Mex restaurant offers awesome food with a cool garage themed venue. I brought some friends along with us again! Say hello to my cousins, Gabriel and Erin, and our friend, Charlie!

They boys are hungry and have no time for photos.
Taco Garage has a full bar and they make a pretty good margarita. They are good size as well so we didn't mind paying the $8 for them.

Like most Tex-Mex places they do give you complimentary chips and salsa for your meal. My one complaint about this place is the bowl of chips they give you might as well be a considered a single serving. I found that if you ask nicely they will give you a larger bowl.

I definitely recommend ordering the Queso Flameado with your chips and salsa. It's an awesome combination of melted cheese and chorizo. Just eat it quickly before the cheese solidifies and is harder to get!

Our meals were delicious and what you would expect from any Tex-Mex restaurant worth its salt. The rice and beans were cooked perfectly and all the sauces were also prepared well. The verde sauce had a wonderful flavor and was not bitter like some tomatillo sauces can be. I'm also usually not a huge fan of mole, but this is definitely one of the better ones that I have tasted. The flavor wasn't too over-powering and had a nice balance of spices and chocolate.

We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. I know there are a lot of Mexican restaurants out there and trust me when I say this one is one of the better ones. Go check it out!
